Coming to school every day helps children make the most of all the fun learning adventures we have planned! Arriving on time means your child can join in from the very start, make friends, and enjoy all the hands-on activities with their classmates.
Building strong habits of regular attendance and arriving on time helps set your child up for success. Consistent attendance ensures your child can fully engage with the curriculum, develop friendships, and enjoy the rich, hands-on learning experiences planned each day.
When children are absent it can disrupt their learning and make it harder for them to stay connected with the class routine. We want every child to have the very best opportunity to reach their full potential, and regular attendance plays an important role in achieving this.
School gates will open at 8:30am when classrooms open. This allows students to prepare for the day and settle in before class starts at 8:50. Pre-primary children should not be left unattended before school commences and must be collected promptly at the conclusion of each day from their classroom by an adult listed with permission to collect.
Please ensure children do not arrive at school prior to 8:30 unless they have been registered for OSH or before school activities.
Once enrolled, families are expected to take holidays during the scheduled school holiday periods. Under the Education Act (1999), children are required to attend school each day of term unless they are unwell or have approved leave on compassionate grounds.
Notification of Absences:
Travel: We understand that families take holidays for many reasons, and these trips can provide exciting opportunities to broaden children’s cultural experiences and learning. However, we ask that families carefully consider the impact of taking a holiday during term time before making arrangements.
If your child will be absent due to a planned family vacation, please notify the school in advance by completing the In-Term Vacation Leave Request Form and emailing it to our Principal, Robyn Crump, the Front Office at (mountlawley.ps@education.wa.edu.au) and your child’s classroom teacher, specialist teachers.
Please note that teachers are unable to provide extra work for students to complete while away. Instead, we encourage children to practise skills they are learning in class by keeping a holiday journal, which can be a fun and meaningful keepsake of their experiences.
Illness, Appointments etc: If it is necessary for a child to be absent from a Kindy day, please notify the school with the date of absence, your child’s name, and the reason for their absence.
Notification can be given using the following methods:
- The Compass app
- Emailing the front office at mountlawley.ps@education.wa.edu.au and your child’s classroom teacher
